Mission

Making the Nation Proud by Striving to Achieve Quality Higher Education for the Women an Affordable Reality Through'Steadfast Involvement, Gracious Munificence, Articulated Thoughts and Accelerating Resoluteness Generating Enviable Tomorrow (SIGMA TARGET)

Welcome to the official website of Thassim Beevi Abdul Kader College for Women, an autonomous institution affiliated with Alagappa University, Karaikudi. Situated in the industrially backward town of Kilakarai, Ramanathapuram District, our college has been a beacon of higher education since its establishment in 1988.

Foundation and Legacy: Seethakathi Trust's Vision

Founded in 1988 by Alhaj Dr B S Abdur Rahman Sahib and sponsored by Seethakathi Trust, Chennai, our institution bears the name of Mrs. Thassim Beevi and her husband Janab Abdul Kader. Mrs. Thassim Beevi, a passionate advocate for women's higher education, tragically lost her life in 1977. Inspired by her dedication, the college was established to uplift the educational status of women, especially those from the minority community.

Empowering Women through Education

With a mission to provide higher education to women, particularly from disadvantaged backgrounds, our college has been a transformative force for over 31 years. Over the years, countless women, especially from the Muslim community, have successfully graduated, breaking barriers that once hindered access to higher education.

Upholding Quality Standards

Committed to excellence, the college adheres to the norms and guidelines set by the University Grants Commission (UGC), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and the State Government of Tamil Nadu. Affiliated with Alagappa University, Karaikudi, the college has been recognized under the 2f and 12(B) Act of 1956, allowing it to receive financial assistance from UGC and other Central Resources.

The college's dedication to student services has been acknowledged with the Best College Award from the Department of Youth Welfare Fora, Madurai Kamaraj University, for three consecutive academic years (2000-01, 2001-02, and 2002-03). Achieving autonomy status in 2005-06 and earning a 'A' Grade CGPA 3.16 during the 2018-2019 national re-accreditation further underscore our commitment to academic excellence.

Adapting to Changing Times: Focused Programs and Growth

From its humble beginnings with 65 students and 11 staff members, the college has grown exponentially. Currently hosting over 2105 students across various Arts and Sciences disciplines at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and research levels. With 121 faculty members, 74 non-teaching staff, and 14 technical staff, the college continues to evolve to meet the dynamic demands of the academic landscape.

Holistic Approach: Blending Education with Social Responsibility

Recognizing the importance of science, technology, and computer education, the college offers comprehensive undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Arts, Humanities, and Sciences to meet the evolving demands of the placement sector. Embracing Institutional Social Responsibility (ISR), the college extends its outreach to neighboring villages and the local community through Community Social Service (CSS) and the Seethakathi NGO under Seethakathi Trust.

Transformations

By the grace of Allah, to begin with, the farsightedness of our Revered Founder Alhaj Dr. B S Abdur Rahman, a philanthropist, a business tycoon as well as a humanitarian founded this college to improve the educational lot of women. He identified muslim girls could not pursue higher education after +2 level for various reasons, and he sought to transform the situation by establishing a college with residential facilities for the muslim girls of our state and for the muslim students from abroad. We have heard the big force behind this project of starting a college here in Kilakarai was his Sister “Thassim Beevi” who sowed the seed of thought in the mind of our revered founder Alhaj Dr. B S Abdur Rahman. Though the seed was sown in the seventies, it came to reality after 17 years. The long term planning has yielded good results now, by producing first generation women graduates with life skills and special skills for placement opportunities. In Tamilnadu, this is the second Muslim Minority Higher Education Institution for Women founded in Kilakarai on 28th July 1988. We will be completing three decades of our successful service to the society especially to the student community.
